About Sharon

I have over 30 years’ experience of working within the NHS with children and young people with a wide range of speech, language and communication needs. These have included unclear speech, difficulties with understanding and using spoken language (including Developmental Language Disorder) and stammering.

In 1998, I began developing an interest in supporting children and young people who stammer through one of my early clients. He was 13 and had received many years of intermittent therapy but was continuing to struggle with his stammering (NB: The terms ‘stammering’ and ‘stuttering’ have the same meaning). It was through referring him to the Michael Palin Centre for Stammering (an internationally renowned specialist centre) and attending to observe his assessment with the team there that I realised that the therapy that could be provided for clients who stammered could be so much more comprehensive than that which I had learned about prior to this.
Following this, I continued to learn and have attended many courses about stammering, developing my therapy skills and my passion for working in this area. I was able to establish and develop a specialist stammering service in the NHS team in Peterborough and became the lead, highly specialist therapist for stammering. I now have over 25 years’ experience in specialising with children and young people who stammer.

I am passionate about supporting clients who stammer to develop confident communication skills, to see themselves and their communication positively and to realise their full potential.
